Our family farm is the dream and work of four generations. From the purchase of the land in the 80s to the beginning of the greenhouse in 2019, a lot of work has gone into making JD Family Farms what it is today. Run by Dave and his daughter Katie, the greenhouse sits on the family land and is fueled by love, hard work, and whatever soft drink Kroger had on sale that week.
Aquaponics is a system of food production that combines aquaculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (soilless plant cultivation). In an aquaponic system, fish are raised in a tank, and their waste provides nutrients for plantsgrown in water. The plants, in turn, help filter the water that is returned to the fish tank. This creates a sustainable and efficient closed-loop system where both plants and fish thrive. Aquaponics can be used to grow a variety of crops, including vegetables, herbs, and fruit, and is often used as a way to produce fresh, local, and environmentally friendly food.
